“Oamenii Cetăţii” Foundation in cooperation with Iasi City Hall and The Municipal Council is launching the first edition of the International Lied Contest ,, Ada Burlui”.
A group of personalities with initiative, stimulated by the cultural passion characteristic of the city of Iasi and, at the same time, involved emotionally and spiritualy in the city’s cultural life, has initiated an International Lieder Competition to take place in the City of Iasi. In this context, this group of personalities, members of the„Oamenii Cetăţii” („City’s Citizens”) Foundation, has sought to attract the partnership of the city’s administrative and cultural institutions and, also, to attract contributions from other local, national and international personalities. This competition was also initiated as a tribute to Prof. Ada Burlui, who, distinguished herself, both, as professor at the Conservatoire for Music and Arts, „George Enescu”, Iasi and as a lied performer.
For over six hundred years of existence, confirmed by documents, Iasi has created a material and spiritual culture, sealed in a history of facts, worthy of any other great city of Europe, to which it belongs. Located at a crossroads of intellectual and trade interests, Iaşi city was and is the true cultural capital of the Romanian territory , the centre of great ideas that have marked our destiny as a nation. Historians have divided opinions regarding the origin of the population in this area, but it is generally accepted that, in ancient times, the city of Iasi was founded by either the Alani (or Iashy) or by the Iazyges which Roman antiquity has recorded it under the name of Jassiorum municipium.
The contest is open to all categories of voices. Candidates wishing to participate in the competition should be under the age of 35, therefore, only candidates born after 31 December 1980 may apply. The competition is scheduled to be held in Iasi city, Romania, between 1st and 5th June 2016, the exact date within this range to be advised in due course. The registration period is November 1st, 2015 – April 25th 2016.
Aim of the competition
The aim of the competition is to foster excellence in lied interpreters, promote new talent voice and encourage singers everywhere to address universal and Romanian lied repertoire.
