The Competition

The competition is organized in three rounds, as follows:

Round 1

Round 1 will consist of interpreting three songs:

  • A song by Franz Schubert, candidate’s choice
  • A song by a nineteenth century composer exepting Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann or a song by a composer from the candidate’s country of origin, candidate’s choice;
  • A song by one of the following composers from the city of Iasi, candidate’s choice:
    • Achim STOIA
    • Sabin PAUTZA
    • Viorel MUNTEANU
    • Leonard DUMITRIU
    • Romeo COSMA
    • Ciprian ION
    • Bogdan CHIROȘCĂ

The results will be announced within maximum two hours from the completion of Round 1; 12 candidates will be admitted to the semifinals, 6 female and 6 male voices. A selection of sheet music by the composers from Iasi can be found HERE.

Round 2

Round 2 will consist of interpreting three songs:

  • A song by Robert Schumann, candidate’s choice
  • A song by a composer from the nineteenth or twentieth centuries, other than  Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann or a song by a composer from the candidate’s  country of origin but DIFFERENT from the one chosen in the first Round, candidate’s choice
  • A song by a Romanian composer, candidate’s choice

The results will be announced within maximum two hours from the completion of Round 2;  6 candidates will be admitted to the finals, 3 female and 3 male voices. A selection of sheet music by the Romanian composers can be found HERE.

The Final

The final will consist of the interpretation of three songs:

  • A song by Hugo Wolf, candidate’s choice
  • A song by a composer of the twentieth century, candidate’s choice but different from others:    
  • A song by a Romanian or Iasi composer, other than those already interpreted, candidate’s choice

The results will be announced within maximum two hours from the completion of  the Final Round.

Nota Bene

The scheduling of the three rounds will be announced after the completion of the registration period, i.e. between 1st to 5thApril, 2016.

Very Important!

Competitors will have to interpret all the songs using the original language and key. The interpretation will be from memory.
