Univ.Prof.Dr. Leonard Dumitriu
A vocality passionate musician, maestro Dumitriu is attached to the opera, a field in which he has been working as a conductor for nearly 30 years, to the lied, a genre to which he dedicated cycles for all voices and to the choir, vocal form for which he wrote inspiring pages. In the lyrical field, he established himself also as a creator, four of the five works on texts written by I. L. Caragiale attaining beautiful public success and being appreciated by the critics in the field. Chamber music, symphonic and concerto genre are also among the composer’s concerns.
After a career of over 25 years at the Romanian National Opera in Iasi, conductor Leonard Dumitriu is today an active presence on the concert stages from Romania, currently being at the music stands of the Philharmonics in Bacau, Craiova, Oradea, Brasov, Sibiu, Timisoara, Ploiesti, Botosani, Ramnicu Valcea.
Exquisite and demanding, Associate Professor Leonard Dumitriu is known among the students of the “George Enescu” University of Arts in Iaşi, from the fields of study Instruments, Canto and Pedagogy, as well as for his classes of Harmony and Counterpoint.
Dumitriu Leonard has written several books on music, among which we mention the trilogy “Caragiale in lyric theater” and “Workshop for conductors”, the work for the third volume of the study still being in progress.
Last, but not least, maestro Dumitriu is a PhD scientific coordinator at the “George Enescu” University of Arts in Iaşi, his main field of interest being… vocality.
